McGruff - Destined To Be

While it occasionally suffers from clichéd songwriting and undistinguished production, McGruff's debut album Destined to Be is nevertheless a promising effort from the young rapper. When he can harness street-smart rhythms with slick hooks, as on the single "Before We Start," McGruff hits hard and there are just enough of these moments to make Destined to Be a promising debut.
Released June 16, 1998 on Uptown/Universal Records, the album peaked at #169 on the Billboard 200 chart and #19 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums.
