Suga Free - Street Gospel
Suga Free's debut album Street Gospel is a competent collection of street-level, hardcore G-funk, highlighted by DJ Quik's savvy production. Although Suga Free is a strong rapper, he isn't particularly distinctive, and he's often given pedestrian backing music, which makes the album a little tedious. Still, he's charismatic enough to make the best songs, like the single "If You Stay Ready," powerful and that makes the album worthwhile. Released May 20, 1997 on Laid Black/Black Island/Polygram Records, the album peaked at #37 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums.
